What is Hockey Player Lingo?

I was talking to a friend a few days ago about hockey. He likes hockey, but isn’t really a hard-core fan, more of a casual fan. He might catch a few games a year, if he’s flicking channels and there is nothing else on. He was never a hockey player as a kid, but played some street hockey once in a while.

Anyways, he was telling me that there whenever he’s around some of his friends that play hockey, they use a bunch of words that he doesn’t really understand. But he just pretends he knows because he doesn’t want to look stupid…

Just for fun I decided to come online and search to see if I could find a list, that I could refer him to. I came across this, and thought it was perfect. I sent it to him and thought there might be others in the same boat. Take a look at the list:

Hockey Player Lingo: A-Z

Apple (noun): an assist.

Bar Down/Bar Mexico (noun): a type of shot that hits the bottom of the crossbar and shoots right down into the net. All beauties (see below) attempt to go bar down whenever possible, as it is seen as a very impressive shot. Just listen to the sound as the puck hits the bar and goes in below.
